We got there at 8 again and they took my blood and we waited a bit for the doctor. Dr Amir was there which was great because I much prefer seeing him instead of one of his fellows. Also I got to thank him :)
I asked mainly about things I can or cannot do because of my compromised immune system - getting the flu shot, going to the dentist. He said I just need to wait 3 weeks and I can go ahead with that, as the risk of infection will have passed, so that's good news. I told him about my side effects which were similar to previous rounds and he said I could eliminate the pre meds! So no benedryl or steroids this time and I am happy about that. I actually slept fairly well last night without the steroids giving me insomnia.
We had to wait quite a while for chemo to start but without the premeds it was a bit faster. At the end they removed my picc line!! I had to take a deep breath and exhale slowly as the nurse pulled it out. I didn't watch and I made Jeff go away too lol. But I saw it after it was out, and the nurse said it was 45 cm long! Crazy. I am glad that thing is no longer in my body. I felt better once it was out. They made me wait 30 minutes just to observe me after it came out to make sure there were no complications. Then we got to walk outta there! It felt a bit surreal but I was also pretty happy.
Dr Amir wants me back December 1st to review the pathology report from my surgery just to close the loop but he expects nothing further will be needed. I am crossing my fingers that there is no lump left - which would be a pathological complete response to chemo.
Today I got up and took a normal shower without the picc line! Felt so good.
I am officially a chemo grad!!
